| Data Warehousing For A Healthcare Company |
The Client |
A leading provider of healthcare payor solutions, wanted to expand its technology leadership in the healthcare payor market by taking its core applications to the next-generation architecture. It required a product that was highly interoperable and location-transparent. They partnered with Safaltek to calculate their claims through a client server architecture based on the Microsoft SQL Server2000 Analysis Manager and Microsoft .NET framework. Safaltek also contributed to the design of the database architecture to integrate it with client server architecture. |
The Requirements |
The company had significantly large databases for different Payors, which were extracted from SQL Server2000 through a tool Analysis Manager worked as EPD (Extract, Process, and Display) tool. This tool would mine data from a database, and then process and store the mined data in the form of cubes. The core objective was to display the data in multiple dimensions for which MDX queries have been implemented to fetch the data and display on the web browser.
A third party component had been introduced for displaying multiple dimensional data. The component was efficient enough to display the claims drill down and drill by services.

| The Challenge |
The task of taking huge databases and reshaping it to improve efficiency is a difficult undertaking. Safaltek found that: |
The company faced the challenge to commit the requirement of displaying the MOLAP data with the help of Analysis Manager, making cubes, processing data and fetching data from it.
The application took too long to run and this was proving difficult for the client because of the huge amount of data involved. The client wanted Safaltek to ensure that the speed of the operations was boosted by a remarkable factor, which was only fulfilled by the third party component.
| The Solution |
Since time was as critical as cost savings, Safaltek used its Global Delivery Model and its team personnel completed the project in 6 months. The initial task concerned a detailed study of the tools - Analysis Manager and third party component. Once this was completed, the Safaltek team determined areas of improvement. These changes were implemented in a short duration, resulting in an EPD that processed information at a faster pace.
The final task before Safaltek was maintaining the data warehouse so that the client's key personnel could handle other tasks. This is an ongoing task and is being achieved to the full satisfaction of the client.
| The Benefits |
| The new EPD delivered many benefits to the client including: |
The new batch processes ran significantly faster than before, thanks to the tightly integrated code. The immense speed ensured a 90% time reduction in batch processes and enhanced the efficiency of the client's processing capabilities.
As part of the improvement process, the client's data warehouse solution started generating more useful output and this helped the company to take key business decisions with high quality data.
The continuous enhancements that are being carried out to the production environment by automating the load processes, adding reconciliation, and automated balancing processes, are helping the client to improve the satisfaction of its customers. |
The Safaltek Global Delivery Model (GDM) lowered costs drastically and helped the company to focus its IT budget savings on more important tasks. |
